On Wednesday 15 January 2020, EU Debate Student Club was held in Room 403, the Academia Hall for Social Sciences in Kobe University Rokkodai campus.
　Firstly, the instructor talked about Epiphany, one of the traditional events at the beginning of the year in Europe, and Galette des Rois which is a typical dessert for January in France. These made the participants feel relaxed in the seasonal atmosphere.
　The instructor then showed a video on the guest speech by Dr. Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, the newly appointed President of the European Commission on post-Brexit relations between the EU and Britain, which was delivered in the London School of Economics. The participants exchanged various views on the issue with the impact on the world and Japan. In addition, the instructor moved on to an interesting article, "Can Europe Relaxed" (RSA Journal, Issue 3, 2019), by Pepijn Bergsen, Research Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham). Given the author's argument that the EU could not relax to cope with difficulty challenges which were hided by Brexit, the participants discussed future scenarios for 2020 in Europe as well as the influence on the world and Japan.
